Our colleague Jean Alvarez at Lake Erie Brain Performance Institute talks here about her experience using NeurOptimal Neurofeedback to support her recovery from Cancer and Chemotherapy treatment. Jean had such a good experience that she and her colleagues did a research study to explore whether her outcomes could be replicated for others. The results are outlined in her 2013 peer reviewed article "The Effect of EEG Biofeedback on Reducing Cognitive Impairment" (Alvarez, Meyer, Granoff, Lundy, 2013), which shows how working with NeurOptimal Neurofeedback supported the recovery of women who had experienced chemotherapy.

At Blooming Brains, we specialize in working with technologies and services that work with the nervous system. Our team members are all either Clinical Counsellors or graduate-level Counselling Interns.
In order to benefit from the services we offer, you don't need to work with one of our Counsellors. You may have your own therapist and want to continue working with them, and to also use one of our services. This is fine! If you'd like us to, we can communicate with your therapist about our observations, or you can do that yourself. If you do not have a Counsellor or Therapist and you would like to have one, we'll be happy to support a referral to one of the members of our partner team, East Vancouver Counselling. We share offices with East Vancouver Counselling, and some of our team members are part of both teams. We like collaborative work, and at the heart of it all, we just want you to get the support you need and to feel better in your life. The East Vancouver Counselling team are a diverse group of professionals who offer a wide range of services, both online and in person. Whether you're looking for CBT for anxiety, psychoanalytic work to address deeply rooted concerns, art therapy, dream work, Feminist counselling, LGBTQIA2S+ & allied perspectives, couples counselling, cultural and intercultural work, or support to make a change in your career - we'll do our best to help you find the right fit for you. Big thanks to our colleague Jean Alvarez at Lake Erie Brain Performance Institute for this excellent series of introductory videos about how NeurOptimal Neurofeedback works. Here's part 1 of 2 simple YouTube videos that explains the big idea of NeurOptimal. We talk a lot these days about training our bodies to be strong and resilient, but with our NeurOptimal systems we can also train your brain! At Blooming Brains we work with people of all ages and stages: children, Moms, working professionals, people recovering from illness and injury, people who want to get the edge on their performance in sports or at work, people who want to expand their 'creative edge', and also people who are really struggling emotionally and with mental health, and who just want something to help 'kick start' a shift.
Our Team have partnered with Cambridge Brain Sciences to offer a slate of pre and post training baseline assessments. In addition to our 'Checklist of Concerns', as well as our regular monitoring of your progress and check-ins at each sessions, these tools can help us to guide and track your progress as you train your brain with NeurOptimal sessions. Your report can show shifts in cognitive function, and we can now also assess for perceived stress, anxiety, depression, post-concussion symptoms, and other concerns, using a slate of evidence-based online tests. Please ask your trainer for more information, ideally before you start your sessions!
